Maine Women's Championship

Kathy Richards Girls' Championship

Brunswick - Saturday, February 12, 2022

The fiftieth anniversary of the Maine Girls' Championship took place at the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, alongside the Maine Women's Championship, and was a true testimony to why the Girls' Championship was named for one of Maine's most prominent female players ever - Kathy Richards.

Richards swept the Women's Championship Quad, retaining the title once again. What was most poignant about the event was the presence of the 1972 Girls' Championship trophy, which was won by the woman for whom the tournament is now named.

The Kathy Richards Maine Girls' Championship is Maine's nominating event for the WIM Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions to be held this year in Rancho Mirage, California. Tala Bayless has been offered the nomination to represent Maine after a tiebreak 3.5-point finish with Maine's 2020 Haring nominee, Zoe Dinnerstein.
